    A visitor writes on October 18, 2010: "Hi. I visited the Dixie Orchards today, and it was great. I phone first and was told the apples are all picked off the trees, but when I said I wanted to make applesauce, he told me there were plenty on the ground I could pick. So my kids and I went and found lots of good apples for $8/bushel. I picked one bushel of Empire, and one of Cortland. He recommended the Cortland for the apple sauce. He was the owner, and very friendly and helpful."

It began as one of the first pick your own strawberry and apple farms in Ontario and remains the most popular spot in the area to pick fresh strawberries, or apples. Location 1: 12442 McCowan Road N., 10.5 km north of Highway 7. Location 2: On the southwest corner of Major Mackenzie Dr. and Highway 404. A visitor writes: "Directions for Location 1: On McCowan Road, immediately north of the Stouffville Road. Google Earth coordinates: 79°18'27.44"W 43°57'43.42"N. The larger building is the Store, the first smaller building just west of that is a 2-storey kid's playhouse - slides, stairs, etc. This year they have added a giant chess board immediately north of that (with giant B&W chess pieces!!). The first building to the south-west is the entrance kiosk ($2 a head right now) and next to that on the western side is the exit where they charge for the full bags ($13 a bag right now) or bushels leaving. The farm provides a hayride - two trailers and a tractor - to and from the orchards slightly further away (we used the orchards right behind the Store, to the north). That hayride travels the track at the western side of the exit shed, north and then west, and south and then west. The access for the hayride is immediately north of the exit shed. Parking is on the north side of the track all the way from McCowan Road to the Bathrooms building, and on the south side in the area of the buildings."
