 North Carolina

  • Central Park School for Children Strawberry Festival - Saturday, May 5, 2018; always the first Saturday in May
Old North Durham Park, 724 Foster Street, Durham, NC. The Strawberry Festival is a family-fun community event in Durham, NC. It's held at the park behind our elementary school building in downtown Durham. For more than a decade, we've been chopping berries, painting signs, spearing juicy lemons with spicy peppermint sticks, enjoying fantastic local artists, and creating a strawberry-filled day each year where everyone can be a kid again. The Strawberry Festival supports Central Park School for Children's Monarch Fund, which cultivates paths of opportunity for all students at our school. It supports access to transportation, nutrition, after-school care, club/camp/field trip scholarships, and technology equipment. Additionally, this Fund supports CPSC's leadership in economic diversity. We were the first charter school in the Southeast to establish an economically weighted lottery system for enrollment. We are creating a supportive economic diversity initiative toolkit for use by other schools.  (ADDED: April 18, 2017, JBS)
