The
Blackberry Picking Season closed on July 15, 2009 and we will not have any
pick-your-own Blackberries until May, 2010. Exact date to be determined by the
weather—the Blackberries ripen on their own schedule, so it varies slightly from
year to year.
We just finished pruning for the last time this year, so
now we are giving the vines time to put on foliage through the winter. This is
when they begin to grow in the distinctive “waterfall” formation on the trellis
fencing that creates that “wall of berries” which makes next year’s picking so
convenient.
You might actually be able to buy fresh-picked Blackberries
this fall and winter in the Farmer’s Market—we have a few varieties that are
supposed to bear in the cooler months, but we are not promising they will
produce. But if you see them in the Farmer’s Market, grab them because that
might be all we have until next summer.

From Thanksgiving through Christmas, we should have our own crop of Meyer
lemons, oranges, tangerines & grapefruit available for sale. Note that these are
not pick-your-own, but when we have them, they will be available in the Farmer’s
Market. If you have not tasted a Meyer lemon, give them a try and you will see
why they are highly acclaimed for their unique flavor.
