Farmer's Markets in Georgia
Looking for a true farmer's market in Georgia? That's one where more than one
farmer shows up with his bulk produce to sell direction! They're rare these
days and many grocery stores (like Harry's and Whole Foods) are labeling
themselves as "farmer's markets" and simply masquerading!) Here's the real list of
farmer's markets in Georgia! And if you know of one I missed and want to add it or correct
the information, please let me know!
Atlanta area
- Atlanta State Farmers Market

16 Forest Pkwy, Forest
Park, GA 30297. Phone: (404) 675-1782.
Email: mharris@agr.state.ga.us
(Mike Harris). Directions:
Map and directions.
This is THE big one in Georgia; a REAL farmer's market, with acres of stalls,
to which the farmers bring truckloads of produce every morning.
At 150 acres, the Atlanta Market is considered one of the largest of its
kind in the world. It has a garden center, wholesale and retail
sales, and is a major distribution point for fresh
produce in the Southeast and throughout the country. The Forest Park
Farmer's Market also
has a restaurant, welcome center and USDA Federal-State office.
On the
weekends, they're only open Saturday till noon, so get there early!
Sundays are closed.
Their prices are good but shop around and haggle; don't buy from the first
stand you see, as prices vary greatly. I can usually get apples there for
about $14 to $18 a bushel in October (although I suspect the high price of
gas my drive up the prices this year, as they arrive by truck from as far
away as Washington State!).
Click here for a listing of the vendors farm stands, produce companies,
etc.: with their phone numbers and a photo of their stall. As far
as I know, this is the only such listing of the vendors at the
Atlanta/Forest Park Farmer's Market available anywhere! Directions:
Map It is right next to the Forest park
exit off of I-075, just outside the Perimeter (I-285) on the south side of
Atlanta. You can't miss (well, if you can, you shouldn't have a
driver's license, their sign is about 75 ft tall)

Grocery Stores Claiming to be "Farmer's Markets"
I'm not knocking them; I shop at them, too. The have lots of organic,
healthy and upscale foods and produce (at premium prices, too). But in my opinion, they are
NOT a true farmer's market! Just spreading out bulk roduce on tables doesn't
make a grocery store into a farmer's market. I only include them here because some naive' city
folk just don't know any better. Let's put it this way: have you EVER seen a
farmer in Harry's or Whole Foods? I didn't think so...

Home Canning Kits
This is the same type of standard canner that my grandmother
used to make everything from applesauce to jams and jellies to tomato and
spaghetti sauce!. This complete kit includes everything you need and
lasts for years: the canner, jar rack, jar grabber tongs,
lid lifting wand, a plastic funnel,
labels, bubble freer, and the bible of canning, the Ball Blue Book. It's much cheaper than buying the items separately. You'll never need anything else except jars and lids (and the jars are reusable). To see more canners, of different styles, makes and prices, click here!
