Remember: ALWAYS call (or follow the link to the farm's own website, if the name is a blue link) to confirm the information before you go! They may close, run out or change events, times, etc. without notifying me!

Note about strawberries in Florida: There are a few strawberry u-pick farms in Florida open during the entire season, which lasts from December through April). Most commercial farms do not open their fields to the general public until the end of the season, which is usually in April (depending on the weather).

NOTE: The exit numbers on the Interstates have changed, but we have no way of knowing what the new correct exit numbers are until the farmers correct their listings; so be sure to ask when you call the farms!

Comments from a visitor on May 26, 2012: "This is one of the very few blueberry farms that is still open for the 2012 season as of 5/27/2012. The owner told us they got a second crop and will be open for a few more weeks. After making dozens of phone calls, we finally found this place that was still open for u-pick - the warm weather this year has sped the season up. There were still plenty of really nice, really big berries. We also picked goji berries which were a steal at $3.50 lb (about 1/4 of the price for dried berries in the store). I have never seen fresh goji berries anywhere else and it was an exciting opportunity to pick them. The owner was very friendly and helpful. "

Comments from a visitor on April 16, 2012:
"I went picking this past Saturday with my son and parents. The blueberries were gorgeous (some the size of a quarter) and the owners were sweet. They were $6.00 a pound and worth every penny. Some of the bushes are over my head this year and LOADED with berries. There are many that werent ripe yet so I'm planning a second trip in a couple of weeks!! Can't wait to get back there. The best part is: they're only 15 minutes away from the Citrus Park area."
Comments from a visitor on June 07, 2011:
"The farm is exceptionally clean! The owners were very polite and helpful. My daughter, husband, and I loved being out in the sun and picking blue berries. I am so excited to freeze them for deserts later."
Comments from a visitor on June 01, 2011:
"Prices not clearly marked. Picked based on the sign at the front and then when I got up front was told that was for the plants not the U-pick. Way overpriced and you could pay less going to the grocery store. Owner said he "could not survive" if he charged less. VERY disappointed and will not being going back there."
Comments from a visitor on May 30, 2011:
"AMAZING FRUIT! I'm a personal trainer and recommend BlueYouth Berries to all of our clients. Healthy, HUGE blueberries and blackberries! I'm so lucky that they are so close to me. Plus, the owners are the sweetest people - extremely knowledgeable and delightful!"
Comments from a visitor on May 06, 2011: "Berries were excellent. However, the owners were discourteous and unpleasant; we won't be returning."
Comments from a visitor on May 25, 2010: "This farm has 400 thornless blackberry plants. The blackberries are fragile and the plants wrap around wires for growth, so the u-pick is available in a very controlled environment. You have to join their mailing list and the owners will send invites to schedule appt times for u-pick. This is the first year that they have the plants and it's a really cool hybrid without thorns!"

Comments from a visitor on May 11, 2011: "I went to pick blueberries there today. I live in Northwest Tampa and Plant City is less than an hour drive from my home. The owners were very nice. The farm was very clean and there were LOTS of big blueberries. I did not plan to pick a lot but I picked 6 buckets in so short a time. There were berries everywhere. It was a shame that I was the only picker! They provided me with clean buckets and then they transferred the berries to plastic containers like they use in grocery stores. The containers were free. I will spread the word around. I will definitely be back. I did not know that blueberry picking was a lot of fun! Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Proctor."

However, we emailed asking about Friday and they gave NO indication that the crop was not plentiful and they might close. Nor did they tell us to call back later that week to double check. ASSURED us they'd be open daily 8 to 8. Then when we arrived Friday, after an hour drive, they were closed. We called, and they said they weren't opening that day - not enough fruit - would open the next day at 8 am (it was 5 pm). Didn't care that we had been told by them that they'd be open or that we'd driven an hour to get there. We were supposed to drive an hour home and then come back 14 hours later. Went to another farm this year."

Home Canning Kits

Features:

Ball Enamel Waterbath Canner, Including Chrome-Plated Rack and 4-Piece Utensil Set

* All the tools you need for hot waterbath canning - in one comprehensive set!
* Complete with 21 1/2 qt. enameled waterbath canner
* Also includes canning rack, funnel, jar lifter, jar wrencher, bubble freer, tongs and lid lifter.

This is the same type of standard canner that my grandmother used to make everything from applesauce to jams and jellies to tomato and spaghetti sauce. This complete kit includes everything you need and lasts for years: the canner, jar rack, jar grabber tongs, lid lifting wand, a plastic funnel, labels, bubble freer. It's much cheaper than buying the items separately. You'll never need anything else except jars & lids (and the jars are reusable)! There is also a simple kit with just the canner and rack, and a pressure canner, if you want to do vegetables (other than tomatoes).
