Note about strawberries in
Florida:
There are a few strawberry u-pick farms in Florida open
during the entire season, which lasts from December through April). Most
commercial farms do not open their fields to the general public until the end of
the season, which is usually in April (depending on the weather).
NOTE: The exit numbers on the
Interstates have changed, but we have no way of knowing what the new correct
exit numbers are until the farmers correct their listings; so be sure to ask
when you call the farms!

Comment from a visitor, November 6, 2007: "). Beautiful
crops to pick, would go back again. If you love tomatoes as I do try the
little yellow ones (pear) - very sweet, low acid. In the farm stand they had
loads of fruits, vegetables. I found the owner and employees very helpful
and cordial. Friendly like Florida use to be 15 years ago. Do wear old shoes
and clothes. I know kids would love it, especially during Strawberry picking
(December)...Great choice of veggies and prices...I will go back, to me it
was worth the 48 mile drive. For you older residents (as myself). I use to
pick his place when he was on Hyploxo Road in Lantana about 10 or more years
ago with same name D&D Farms...same owner, same great prices and
vegetables/fruit.... "

UPDATE Comments from visitors (3 positive, 1 negative):
March 7, 2008: "In regards to the individual who wrote
the deragatory remark about the Beefy U-Pick farm is way out of line. This
farm is entirely the opposite of that individual's views. Beefy U-Pick has
the biggest, luscious strawberries that are freshly picked daily (or U-Pick)
plus an abundance of fresh produce available as well as a fresh juice bar,
homemade pies & ice cream. The owner has available freshly baked zuccini
bread & strawberry/cream muffins (her own recipe)& novelities of
hand-painted design kid's T-shirts & doggie biscuits (her own recipe). So
therefore, the individual who sent that unacceptable e-mail must be talking
about a different farm & I feel they should offer these owners an apology."
March 2, 2008: : "Wonderful down home experience,
reminded me of the u picks up north and the way old Florida use to be. Very
friendly staff, plants bearing tons of BIG, beautiful, tasty strawberries,
and tomatoes plants were covered with nice plump, juicy, red tomatoes. Large
variety of other vegetables to choose from, already picked. To top it all
off they had fresh roasted corn on the cob and a great family atmosphere.
Made for a nice afternoon." March 2, 2008: "I just read the incredibly negative
comments posted about this U-pick farm. That person is so WRONG about this
u-pick farm. You should know my grand daughters ages 4 & 5, my daughter and
I go to this U-pick farm at least 3 times a week. We have purchased all
types of vegetables and could not be happier with the quality and selection
they sell. It is so much fresher and less expensive than buying the same
items at the grocery store. We love it there, there are always fresh
tomatoes and strawberries growing in the fields, yes, it is a farm so the
plants are in a farm field and yes it can be dirty on your fingers or shoes
if it has been raining, but it is wonderful fun in the beautiful Florida
weather. The plants are spaced so you can easily pass between the rows to
pick your own berries or tomatoes. I asked them, and the friendly workers
told me the farm is about 25 acres in size. Yes, there is a beautiful white
tent under which they sell their other vegetables along with tables and
rocking chairs to sit and relax. There is even a nice bathroom facility. The
only refrigeration there is for the fresh squeezed citrus, juices, water,
sodas, pies and ice cream. They've told me exactly where all of their fresh
produce comes from, and they grow the majority of it themselves on the
surrounding farm land. They also buy quality items from other local farmers.
I think the author of the terrible comments has never been to this farm or
perhaps they are from the "other" strawberry farm that is just opened south
of this U-pick. Let me know if you'd like to see any photos from our visits
to this farm, it is nothing like that other person stated."
February 23, 2008: "This site is a
tent on a lot by the interstate with only a few pitiful plants, none of
which were bearing on my visit, they have about 1/4 acre strawberry plants,
and about 1/4 acre of tomato plants. The gardens are unkept, and the plants
porrly maintained. The other produce they mention comes from refrigeration
offsite,, there is no actual "fresh" produce. Overall a long drive for a big
disappointment." Can anyone confirm or contradict this?

Feedback from a visitor, February 18, 2008: "This is such a
wonderful treat to have new to Palm Beach county! Though small, this u-pick
is convenient and has very friendly staff. Finding it is somewhat deceiving
because the u-pick is entered through the store front of a strip mall. There
is also a farm stand a couple hundred feet north on Military trail called
The Boys Farmstand. Enjoy!"
