  • Apple Butter Festival at Riley's at Los Rios Rancho - Event dates: Thanksgiving weekend, from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m. each day.

Directions: Take the Yucaipa Blvd. exit from I.S. 10; turn left on Oak Glen Road and follow the signs near the crest of the hill to Riley's at Los Rios Rancho.  The Apple Butter Festival is free to the public and includes a hands-on demonstration of apple butter making the old-time way, outdoor pioneer games, music, carriage rides, and more. Saturday’s events include the “Lighting of the Ranch” at dusk, when the giant pines at the entrance will be illuminated to welcome in the Christmas season. Guests are invited to make apple garlands and popcorn strings to help deck out the ranch for the holidays. An old-fashioned hoedown (tickets required) Saturday night will feature music by the Riley's Mountaineer Band.

  • Johnny Appleseed Days Festival - Saturday, October 4, 2008, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Paradise, CA. The festival celebrates John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, who traveled for most of his life across the U.S., planting apple seeds and encouraging settlers to plant apple orchards. An annual event, the first such celebration was in 1880 and was called the Harvest Home Festival. It continued through the years with some name changes and postponements due to war years, etc. In 1968, it was finally named the Johnny Appleseed Festival.

  • Springville Apple Festival - mid-October

Over 200 craft booths, juried to ensure quality merchandise, will be selling hand made arts and crafts, and food.  Entertainment consists of clowns, music, kid’s mechanical rides, a Pie Eating Contest, and Apple Baking Contest.  Also included are the Apple Run 5K, 10K, and Kid's runs, plus the 2-mile walk on Saturday morning, and the Annual Fat Tire Classic mountain bike race on Sunday morning. The Fat Tire Classic is a challenging and scenic 7-mile mountain ride for adults, with a well-supervised and easier course for children.   • Georgia Apple Festival - Second and third weekends in October
    Ellijay, GA. The Ellijay Lions Club, the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce, and the cities of Ellijay and East Ellijay invite everyone to come and enjoy the 34th year of the Georgia Apple Festival. There are over 300 vendors with handmade, hand-crafted items, as well as many on-site demonstrations of how selected types of crafts are made. This year promises many new crafts as well as favorites from past festivals. There is a parade and antique car show each year. The parade is on the second Saturday. 32th Annual Georgia Apple Festival  From the mountains of North Georgia  . Producing 600,000 bushels of apples each fall, Ellijay/Gilmer County is Georgia's Apple Capital, so it's only natural that the second and third weekends of October each year, people from all over the nation come to Ellijay to celebrate the apple.   • Long Grove Apple Festival - hours are 10 AM to 6 PM daily.
    Long Grove, IL.  Admission is FREE and so is the parking (There is a charge at the Church parking lot). Long Grove restaurants, such as the Apple Haus and outdoor food booths serve apple pies (4,000 were sold last year), apple cider, and apple muffins, apple cinnamon pretzels, apple salsa, and taffy apple beer mug sundaes.

  • Murphysboro Apple Festival - a week in mid September.

The Murphysboro Apple Festival is the longest, continuous running festival in Southern Illinois, featuring the largest parade in our region!   • Cory Apple Festival - The Cory Apple Festival is at the end of September every year.
    Cory, IN. You can buy apples by the bushel there and they have flea markets and craft stands. This festival is a huge hit and people come from miles around to go. They have a little bit of everything. . A visitor writes on August 09, 2008: "I love the festival and I know several other people that enjoy it too. The town, Cory, is small town living at its finest. And it kicks off the festival season here in western Indiana where we have the Covered Bridge Festivals as well. " (ADDED: August 09, 2008)

    Fort Wayne, IN.     Celebrate the pioneer spirit of Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) who planted apple trees in the Indiana frontier in the early 1800's.

  • Nappanee Apple Festival -

Classic Car cruise ins, apple peeling contest, an apple bake-off, and antique fire truck show are just a few of the traditional events that make this festival great! Dozens of craft exhibitors, parade  with bands, brightly colored floats and of course the Apple Festival Queen! There is no admission charge. Crates of the fresh fruit dotting the downtown sidewalks. Food booths run by the Rotary to the sororities. From fritters to cobbler and Dutch apple pie, you'll find no short lines, but plenty of time to catch up on the fall gossip. Sweet cider is the drink of the day and the apple butter boiling in the copper kettle can be taken home, if you're the patient type.
  • Spencer Indiana Apple Butter Festival  - mid September
    Spencer Indiana. Held on the Square. There are a lot of craft booths and contests and a parade on Sunday at 1:00pm.
  • Stumler Orchard and Restaurant's annual AppleFest.  - early October weekend - Saturday, from 10 am to 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 3, from 10 am to 6 p.m
    Galena, IN.. This is the 22nd year for the event. There will be fun for all with arts and crafts, flea market, demonstrations, pony rides, petting zoo and family games. There will be a kiddie tractor pull with registration both days at 1 p.m. with the pull being held at 1:30 p.m. There will also be pumpkin painting, hayrides to the pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin, or pumpkins available in all shapes and sizes. “Ol Hess” the magical clown will be on the grounds both days from 11 am to 4 p.m. making balloon animals and doing his magical tricks. Antique gas engines and tractors will have a “Show & Swap Meet” both days. Plenty of food will be available outside under the tent, including barbecue, country fries, fish, brats, chili and bean soup, cornbread, chicken and dumplings and much more. Inside the restaurant there will be fried chicken and roast pork dinners. Also available will be apple dumplings, pumpkin pie and fried apple pies. Caramel apples, as well as plenty of plain apples, will be available for purchase at the farm market. Riverside Cloggers will perform on Saturday at 1 pm, along with other dance groups. Rainbow Dance Group will perform on Sunday at 2 p.m. There will be live music both days as well. Directions to Stumlers: Take I-64 west to Exit 119, go to Galena and turn right onto Navilleton Road. Follow Stumler Orchard and Restaurant’s red and white signs.

  • Annual Apple Fest - Saturday near the end of  September, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
    Monmouth Museum, Main Street, Monmouth, ME. The Apple Fest serves as the Museum's end of season fund raising event and brings the community together for a day full of fun and interesting activities for adults and children. Thanks to kind donations of homemade apple pies from Monmouth's great cooks, Apple Fest is the Museum's way of celebrating the apple for which Monmouth orchards are famous. The Apple Fest also exposes people to a variety of apple related activities such as cider pressing, apple arts and crafts, stenciling, displays of apple varieties, and historic artifacts associated with the harvesting and processing of apples.

Maryland

    Shuresville Road, Darlington. The festival includes an outdoor stage with all day entertainment, hundreds of country crafters exhibiting and selling their work, a fall harvest of mums, pumpkins, and of course, Apples ! There is also a children's area with games and pony rides and kids can even stuff their own scarecrows. There are also hayrides for the whole family all day long. And Food !!! The village of Lenox becomes a country fair with live entertainment, crafts, face painting, sidewalk vendors, dog show and a giant-pumpkin contest.   • Johnny Appleseed Days Festival - Saturday every year in mid September (in 2008, September 13, from 6:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. (Rain date September 20, 2008) )
    Leominster, MA. T    he Johnny Appleseed Festival began in 1994 and today, the event has two days of celebration, including the Johnny Appleseed 5K Road Race, and the Johnny Appleseed Parade. Johnny Appleseed is celebrated by the city of his birth.

  • Afton Apple Orchards annual apple festival - 2nd and 3rd weekends in October

Missouri

  • Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival - October
    Downtown Kimmswick, MO in Jefferson County. The Apple Butter Festival is estimated to draw near 100,000 people. The Apple Butter Festival is FREE, $5+ for parking. Paid parking will be available off of Highway K with just a short walk into town. Visitors may park at Windsor School campus and ride a free shuttle bus into the Festival. The busses will run throughout the day shuttling visitors to/from the parking area at the School. There will be hundred's of vendor booths throughout the city park selling a variety of crafts and food items. Live entertainment will also be provided by the City of Kimmswick and the Kimmswick Merchants.The Apple Butter Festival started in 1977 and has been growing larger and larger each year ever since. All of the town shops are open and accessible only via foot traffic. Don't forget to buy some of the famous apple butter made fresh during the festival by the Kimmswick Historical Society at the Apple Butter Pavilion on Market Street. From past experience, we have found that the best time to arrive at the Apple Butter Festival is between 10am and 11am on Sunday morning due to the fact that many people are in church.     North Wilkesboro, NC.  The Brushy Mountain Apple Festival is one of the largest one-day arts and crafts festivals in the Southeast. The Brushy Mountain Apple Festival is not just this club's largest fundraiser, but has become a one of Wilkes County's biggest fundraisers. Over 100 civic, church and other non-profit organizations participate in the festival. Over 160,000 people visit this festival during the day and it's FREE.

Vermont

  • Belmont Cider Days - one weekend in October, Saturday 10am -4pm and Sunday 12-4pm.
    Belmont Green, Mt. Holly, VT.
    Every year the townspeople gather on the village green for two days of apple cider pressing, apple pie eating, and local artisans and crafters selling there wares. There's cheese sampling by Crowley Cheese, a local cheese company that has been making cheese in this town for over 100 years (Still doing it all by hand). Local service organizations sponsor tables for fun raising. The first day of the festival (Saturday) starts with a pancake breakfast at the Mt. Holly Grange and the Cider Days begins promptly afterwards. After a day on the green a Public Dinner is held from 5-7pm at the Odd Fellows Hall in Belmont. (This was an old toy factory at the turn of the century which made sleds and wagons.) Sunday's Cider Days starts at 11 am and goes to 4pm culminating with a last minute cider pressing.

  • Burlington Old Fashioned Apple Harvest Festival
    Burlington, WV. Free admission to the two-day event with live country, bluegrass, and southern gospel music performed on-stage See Burlington's Famous Apple Butter being made the old-fashioned-way in open-air kettles! Also, a 3-acre flea market;  tents filled with handmade items. Loads of food, such as apple specialties, country ham sandwiches, funnel cakes, and more! Heritage quilts on display, a parade, music, games, pony rides and fun for the whole family!

  • Vermont Apple Festival & Craft Show - a Saturday in October, from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, from 10 am to 4 pm.
    Riverside Middle School, Springfield, Vermont. Event dates: y, Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children 6-12, under 5 free.  On Sunday, there's the annual Apple Pie contest!
